Handy Rangers Reference Guide

By James Finn Garner

To earn Bochy another trophy:
$how Corey Seager that you’re eager
Give Semien a couple extra million
Grow l’esprit of Garcia
Give up da funk for Jung
Pray Mad Max can still stack
Then parry with Montgomery
And stay out of the bullpen
whenever you can.

An Ode to Leody

by James Finn Garner

A master thief is Leody Tavares
Stealing home runs from over tall fences
Think one is long gone?
Oh hun, you’d be wrong
He’s the David Niven of Texas’ defenses.

Chesapeaked Too Soon

by James Finn Garner

The kids from Charm City
Didn’t play so pretty
In their short series with the Rangers
But these orange sprats–
Good defense, strong bats–
To the postseason will not be strangers.

They play the game right,
Alert but not tight,
And act like a team, not selfish.
They outpaced the Rays
And will not go away,
Not unlike a batch of bad shellfish.

The Battle of Texas

by James Finn Garner

The Rangers were in danger
Of continuing their slide
Put their boots on ‘gainst Houston
To defend Dallas pride.

Young Josh Sborz lost the first war
While Altuve, Dubon went yard
Then batters were hampered by reliable Framber
Who didn’t make it look so hard.

For the wild card race, they went with an ace
Facing JV — the showdown was set
But ol’ Max Scherzer came out the worser
And they rode off in the sunset.
