Fatal Thaw

by Hilary Barta

Here it’s snowing, preceding the raining
Arizona? I read that they’re training
.     Though they’re new on the field
.     Cubby Blue’s fate is sealed
And from home I will lead the complaining.

Out here in the rain and the snow
Cubs don’t send a comforting glow
    Just who will play where
    and what will we care
    When third sacker’s name’s “I Don’t Know”
