It was Old Timers’ Day
At Yankee Stadium:
Familiar names played the field;
Yogi was remembered.
The banter in the booth
Was long on lore and tooth
And was like the game itself:
A scrapbook of past and present–
Because baseball never gets old.
Painful as it was that Yogi was no longer there, it was still good to see others from his generation (Whitey Ford, Dr. Bobby Brown), Reggie, Bernie, Willie Randolph, Ron Guidry and others (besides Bernie Williams) from the 1996 team that brought the World Championship back to the Bronx. It was especially fun to see Godzilla send a homer into the second deck of the Stadium—on his birthday, no less. Too bad the current Yanks couldn’t follow that up with a win.
“Strange Bedfellows”
For: Yogi Berra and Dr. Bobby Brown
The Village Elliott: 6/14/16
When the Yankees played ball out of town,
Yogi Berra roomed with Bobby Brown.
Yogi read comic books,
Through “Gray’s” Bobby looks.
Brown became doctor, Yogi’s no clown.
