The Mighty Big Klu

by Caleb Wiley

Big Klu and his guns struck fear
Into opponents both far and near.
His sleeves were ripped out, swung the bat with great clout,
The Mighty Big Klu was he.

His biceps were frightening, indeed.
He caused the old hardball to bleed.
No doubt he was big, he also was tough,
The Mighty Big Klu was he.

His muscles were au naturel,
Unlike DeRosa and Sosa, et al.
No steroids or juice, just nature unloosed–
The Mighty Big Klu was he!

Barry Bonds #20

by Anonymous

There’s a Giant who thinks he’s a god,
His head hugest amongst all his squad.

No matter what he does,
By setting baseball abuzz,

All his records will be broken by A-Rod.

Verlander’s No-Hitter

by Anonymous

One way that this year’s Verlander-ing

Was different than classic philandering:

Pudge set it up with his pandering,

Aided by expert ball-handling,

But after all their energy-expending,

The Brewers had blue balls at the ending.

By James Finn Garner

Bobby Cox, did you feel rejection

When you broke McGraw’s mark for ejections?

Noble Brave, please don’t pout,

‘cuz getting thrown out

Endears you to our cheering section.

First Home Run

by Buster Brown

Not a thwack
Not a pow

just a tap
a light
touch

soars through the air

quietly
softly

double
triple

first hit of the season
first home run

From a nine-year-old Chicagoan, who hit his first home run in Little League this past May and wrote this poem upon returning home.
