The State vs. Clemens (And Let’s Move On)

by Stephen Jones

5-year trial over
Roger Clemens now acquitted
Such waste of dollars

Public reaction?
Like his contriteness mixed
But this play is done

Now comes next year’s act
How will Cooperstown decide?
New theater to come

Wait Till Next Year

by Doug Fahrendorff

Twice
One Strike
From a World Series win
The Rangers
Fail to close out
The Cards
Was Bart Giamatti right
When he wrote
That baseball was designed
To break your heart
Or will Ranger fans find
Like the Dodgers in “55”
Or the Red Sox in “04”
Redemption is often
Only an October away

“Fear Strikes Out” Strikes Out

by Hilary Barta

To the wall, back he goes, with a twirl
Grabs the ball, strikes a pose, then the hurl
.     Though the term’s not “correct”
.     I’ll be firm and direct:
I’m appalled Perkins “throws like a girl”

Hilary Barta shares his obsessions of old movies and comics at his daily limerick site, LimerWrecks.

Rauuuuul Be Seeing You

by David Bellel

Rauuuuul be seeing you;
In all the old, familiar home run places
That this Yankee heart of mine embraces;
All day through.

Bald man you still can play
In that big ball park across the way;
Watch our numbers swell
The sense of glee
At last Cash chose well.

Rauuuuul be seeing you;
In every summer’s day made gay;
But I don’t really mean that way;
Even though Obama says that’s okay
Games once lost will now be won
And when the season’s through;
I’ll be looking at first place
And I’ll be thanking you.

Idle Comment

by Stephen Jones

There’s no reason to argue
or to spew

The American League East
is the best

competitively
realistically

Boston?  New York?  Tampa?
Baltimore too?

(And Toronto in the mix as well?)

But to shift gears
and memory/years:

Despite all the hiccups
the HGHs and PEDs

baseball the purity of it
continues to confound/explain

why a summer day or in rain
ball-to-bat glove-and-ball

fascinates us all
