All-Star Clerihews #4 — Clerihews Must Die

Mike Moustakas
Shakes air-maracas
When he sets his phone to play
“Not Fade Away.”

Anthony Rendon
Is bad to the bone
A little George Thoroughgood
Puts him in a killer mood.

George Springer
Is adroit with dingers
And often later
Brings more taters.

Hunter Pence
Is still intense
But has learned to be discrete
In the Texas heat.

Every Cloud Has a Souvenir Lining

by Michael X. Ferraro

(Or, “This One Really Sticks in Your Crawford Box”)

We have awesome seats, and I brought my glove.
The Houston Astros are the team I love.

Down one in the sixth, a high Red Sox fly
keeps coming toward us. Oh heck! No!!! Why?!

My dad and the crowd all scream, “Throw it back!”
(I mean, anywhere else, it’s just warning track).

So I squeeze the ball, and fight back a tear…
But no way! I’m keeping this souvenir!

Red Sox 8, Astros 6, or Here’s the Catch

by Raphael Badagliacca

This was a game of catches
And misses that were catches
Of a flight whose arc
Did but did not leave the park

Of a ball that maybe maybe might
Fall fast enough
To elude the relentless intent
Of leather to end the night.

A Hand? Out!

by Hilary Barta

A homer’s the call, hip-hooray!
Was it over the wall or in play?
But for hands of the fans
Would it land in the stands?
With close blows let them fall where they may.
