What a Difference a Day Makes

by David Bellel

What a difference a day made
Less than twenty-four little hours
Brought the gloom and the showers
Where there used to be joy

My yesterday was true, dear
Today I’m feeling so blue, dear
My happy nights are through, dear
Since we went with Phil Hughes

What a difference a day makes
There’s a rainbow behind  me
Skies above can’t be sunny
Since those pitches went amiss, boy am I pissed!

It’s hell when you find no chance on your menu
What a difference a day made
And the difference is Hughes

What a difference a day makes
There’s a rainbow behind  me
Skies above can’t be sunny
Since those pitches went amiss, boy am I pissed!

It’s hell when you find no chance on your menu
What a difference a day made
And the difference is Hughes
Is Hughes

The Dangers of the Rangers

by James Finn Garner

It’s wise to list the dangers
When you play the Texas Rangers.

When e’en Molina steals a base,
These running deer may win this race.

Keep an eye on Ancient Vlad
Or risk your defense looking bad.

When Cliff Lee is on the mound,
Your whole squad is strike-out bound.

Ground outs can burn like lightning
With Elvis Andrus in the building.

And if Hamilton remembers how to hit,
You’ll be buried to your neck in trouble.

Elvis Casting Out the Angel

by Bob Carlton

.

Dive to short so deep
it’s almost left field–
a rifle shot
across the diamond–
low ricochet
dug out at first:
a play you’ll never
see again just
another box score out.

American League West 2010 Haiku Forecasts

By Stuart Shea

ANGELS
Rich Latino woos
White fans who usually hire
Latino workmen.

ATHLETICS
Moneyball’s sunset
Means the lineup now includes
Kevin Kouzmanoff.

MARINERS
Hey, Jack Z….that nut
That fell off the hitting tree?
He’s your problem now.

RANGERS
Sweet spring robins’ song
May sound suspiciously like
“Neftali Feliz.”

Pay-Rod left our town
To seek fame and great fortune
Pity his poor choices
