Indians’ Schneid

by the Village Elliott

Cavs crowned Cleveland’s schneid with Le Bron,
First crown since ’64 Browns won.
Tribes’ now poised to break
Their own “Schneid by the Lake”
After winning AL gonfalon.

Just weeks before Dewey beat Harry,
Tribe beat Braves, won flag, next year bury.
For nigh 70 years
Seasons end with more tears;
If Tribe wins, tears of joy will make merry.

October Memories

by Doug Fahrendorff

As the 112th World Series draws near
Which players
Will join the assemblage
Of past October heroes
As the Cubs try to end
A 108-year drought
Will Bryant, Baez, Rizzo or
Any of several pitchers
Lead the way
Can Kluber, Lindor, or Miller
Lead the Indians
To a series win
Certainly
Surprises await
Heroes yet to emerge
Only in October

Washington’s 7th Inning Stretch (too far)

by Raphael Badagliacca

Here’s what I say
Crime doesn’t always pay
Harper stole a base
and Murphy’s hot bat
All in the same play

Durocher tells this story
How Mays hit a ball
High up off the wall
But stopped at first
And watched the ball fall
So McCovey who hit next
Could hit one over the wall

Raphael Badagliacca is the author of The Yogi Poems and Fathers Day.

Post Buries the Past

By Hilary Barta

Don’t bore us with numbers or stats
Or stories of goats and black cats
Nix chapter and verse
About crap like “the curse”–
Just bring on the Dodgers or Nats.

Gonfalon Bubble

by the Village Elliott

Facing Mets, Jints southpaw with stubble
Again evoked Gotham’s Carl Hubbell.
Conor G’s three-run fly
Sent the Giants to Chi,
There to prick Cub’s gonfalon bubble.
