The Dodgers May Be Bankrupt

by Stephen Jones

The Dodgers may be bankrupt
But the team is not Frank McCourt

Player personnel should not be
Argued part of personal finance
Or a sticking part of ugly divorce

But he’s twined off-the-field calamity
With baseball history
And proved successfully

Frank McCourt is truly
A “dodger” financially

Truth To Tell?

by Stephen Jones

Time to make amends
(I wish would’ve been said)
By Roger Clemens
(But I cannot judge)

There’s tangled arrogance
Supposed abuse & media rush
Posturing on the mound a stance
In court too to hush

By filed papers
By disclaimers
That a person is naive
Yet aware & conflictive

I thought this bare-knuckle
Bare-faced debacle
Would’ve been erased
By an all-forgiving fan base

But this coming legal sieve
Only wishes/draws attention
To media-flushed speculation
A barrel of brine to leave

Illegal Pitch

by Barbara Gregorich

Tar, grease, sweat and snot —
clever viscous daubs
skew its dives and dips.

Powerless to determine
its seriously wacko flight,
mighty sluggers whiff.

Barbara Gregorich is the author of She’s on First, Women at Play, and the recently published mystery, Sound Proof. Her poetry has been published in Barnwood, Blue Collar Review, Prairie Journal, and other magazines.

The Return of Sean Burroughs

by Stuart Shea

Little League Hero,
First-round pick.
Partied ’til sick,
Major league zero.

Cleared his name,
Did what it takes.
Signed with the Snakes,
Back in the game.
