Cubla Khan

by James Finn Garner

Or a division in a fragment. A dream.

In Wrigley Field did Quintana
A string of stately innings hurl,
Where Bryant a salami dinged
And El Mago did his magic things
To sweep the oft-accursed Birds.

Yea, twice from left field’s fertile ground
did Zobrist strike a Cardinal down:
Rizzo, Bote, Albert brought their lumber
Redbird fans were too shell-shocked to weep
The Cubs at last have woken from their slumber
And gained first place with a welcome sweep.

A Cards Fan, I

By Alan P. Rudy

A Cards fan, I
These playoffs
I decry

The Rockies collapse,
Cleveland implodes,
The Braves, too young,
NY and Boston hung.

Oh, now wait,
Two nights went right,
Oct. 1st and 2nd…
Good night

You Drive Through It to Get to St. Louis

by James Finn Garner

In Chicago it’s Crosstown Classic time!
A weekend to fumble for a rhyme
For rebuild, for potential,
For prospects and run differential;
To remember Grace, Sweet Lou and Buerhle,
To have an excuse to start drinking early,
To recall when Barrett and AJ flashed fists,
And for the North Side to see the South Side exists.

Breaking Nad

A foul tip in the ol’ concertina
Has now clipped the Cards’ catcher Molina
A clout to the junk
Knocked him out for the month
But won’t flip Yadi’s stat to “Latina”
