The Stephen Strasburg Fallout (A Reflection)

by Stephen Jones

.
From the much-anticipated debut
Standing on a mound of dirt
To voicing Letterman’s “Top 10”
Standing on a mound of media

Only days apart quite a “change up”
Perhaps more so & swifter
Than the time he spent between pitches
(The umpire asking him to “slow down”)

From baseball’s eager expectation
From its projection of possibilities
& into media’s spotlight attention
In history 14Ks still outweigh a Top 10

No Glavine. No Smoltz.
“Chipper” Jones no longer is.
Where has my youth gone?

If a ball club plays
In an empty stadium
Does anyone hear?

A pleasant spring, but
No Reyes of sun for the Mets.

Well, 18 of them were born
Before Reagan’s years.
.

As Strasbourg links France
and Germany, Steve Strasburg
spans Nats’ talent gap.

Truth Endures

By Stuart Shea

Seasons come and go.
Shadows cross the land.
But in the passing parade of humanity,
One thing will always go as planned:
Adam Dunn will miss the cutoff man.

National League East 2009 Haiku Forecasts

by Stuart Shea

PHILLIES
Some defending champs
Next spring find their magic dust
Doesn’t work so well.

METS
Many suns have set
Since Pedro Martinez could
Throw over 90.

MARLINS
Buy season tickets!
We’ll throw in a free car wash
By Marlins players.

BRAVES
No Smoltz, No Maddux
Only Glavine left to fly
Their once-proud banner.

Jim Bowden’s mission:
To leave behind a steaming pile
On Anacostia’s banks.
