One Fan’s Wild Card Dreams

by Stephen Jones

Hey, don’t count them out —
The Yankees just clout
Toronto’s first-place Blue Jays.
It’s the first time this season
They swept the opposition,
And next up, it’s the Devil Rays.
Yeah, there’s not much time left —
And it’s a hard nut to crack —
But reality’s something you check
Outside the stadium gate.

  1. Well, the funny thing about baseball is that sometimes the team with the poorer record surprises the supposedly dominant team—as the Yanks just demonstrated. The roles are reversed with regard to the Yanks vs. Rays, so let’s hope that the Yanks don’t get complacent. Let’s also hope that they play each game one at a time and keep their eyes off the standings until all 9 innings (or more) are complete. I still have my doubts that they will reach post-season, but I’d be glad to be proven wrong.
