Brewer Haiku for April

by Doug Fahrendorff

Escobar at short
It’s tough replacing Hardy
In fans’ affections

Narveson should start
How much better can he do?
No runs given up

Pundits deriding
The Brewers’ pennant chances
Fans expect success

Corey Hart in right
Arbitration winner
Production lacking

National League Central 2010 Haiku Forecasts

by Stuart Shea
.

CUBS
Whither the Starlin?
For now, he makes a nest out west
In loverly Des Moines.
.
CARDINALS
Blah de blah de blah.
Pujols is going to be dealt.
When hell is frozen.
.
ASTROS
Old, boring players,
Mediocre announcers,
Fans that prefer football.
.
BREWERS
A Wolf is Riske,
But worth two in the Bush. Bring
Hoffman a Coffey.
.
PIRATES
I walk in the park
So pretty, green, bright, and lush.
Ugh! The Bucs play here.
.
REDS
Ardolis Chapman.
Good for 200 wins or shoulder problems,
It’s up to Dusty.

Brewer Haiku

by Doug Fahrendorff

The Brewer bullpen
Silencing opponents’ bats
A pleasant surprise

Expectations high
Wildcard will not satisfy
Rabid Brewer fans

Listening to Uek
“Get up, get outta here, gone!”
Summer and baseball

Ode to a Large Prince

By Stuart Shea

Prince Fielder,
Prince Fielder,
I think that you’re cool.

If you did a jackknife,
You’d empty the pool.

T-Bow, 2008

by Doug Fahrendorff

.

Removed from the game
To a chorus of boos
After walking in two runs
He sits alone
In the dugout
Cap pulled low
Expressionless
Watching the inning unfold.
Two years before
It had seemed easy
Fastballs painting the corners
Sliders snapping under opponents’ bats.
Sadly
Fans have short memories.
